Boys and Girls Clubs of Dundee Township recently visited Elgin Community College for a College and Career Readiness program. There are four visits total for this program. The first visit was all about the process of admissions and a tour of the campus. On the second visit, members played Family Feud: Financial Aid Edition. This game taught them about the cost of college, filling out the FAFSA form, and applying for scholarships. We look forward to seeing what the last two visits have in store.
There are so many benefits to learning ASL (American Sign Language). ASL helps with cognitive growth, children develop more creative thinking techniques, they also develop a high vocabulary when taught at a younger age, It also leads to higher reading levels and it is also believed to raise the IQ.
Our members at Meadowdale took part in the Vision Screening program. The Boys & Girls Club of America has partnered up with America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses to create this program. It provides free vision screening and even eye exams if needed.
Having an eye exam is very crucial especially for children. Having poor vision can interfere in academics. After all it is believed that 80% of learning is visual.
For the entire month of October, Buffalo Wild Wings will be raising money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. They will be doing this through their Team Up for Kids mission. If you want to be part of this awesome cause, then all you have to do is purchase a paper pin up for a minimum of $1. For a limited time, you can get a branded Pop Socket for a minimum of $5.
BGCDT is always looking for ways to guide our members into becoming leaders. Our Meadowdale site has come up with a great group to do just that. They are the Jr Leaders. One of the requirements of becoming a Jr. Leader is memorizing the Club Creed. The creed aims to inspire members to reach their full potential in all aspects of their life. We look forward to seeing them accomplish becoming a Jr. Leader.

Supply Drive for BGCDT
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township kicked off a brand new school year on Tuesday, August 14th. Club members greeted our staff, across eight (8) Club locations with smiles, excitement, hope and anticipation for an exciting school year. Many of our Club members, however, come to us armed with little supplies for the new school year, often missing the most basic of essential school supplies.
