Last night the Golfview site had their first ever IncrEdibles Graduation Night. IncrEdibles is a program that our staff, Kayla Caldwell, created this school year. The purpose of the program is to get our members comfortable and help them feel independent in the kitchen while at the same time maintaining a safe environment. This year the members have created their own recipe books, done restaurant menus, and learned about nutrition.
Let's hear it for the 2nd and 3rd grade ALL STARS of Sunny Hill! They had their first BGC performance this week and it was a big success! This concert had a combination of choir and dance. The choir portion was performed in the first half in which they sang songs from Ed Sheeran and Moana. The second half of the performance showcased the talents of the dance group and danced to the Kids Bop version of Timber.
A big congratulations to Qudus Ademonkunla for winning Meadowdale Elementary’s Junior Youth Of The Year! He has been a valued member for five years now. This is the very first year that BGCDT has done the Junior Youth Of The Year. Each candidate had to submit a portfolio containing a photo, a nomination form, questions about themselves, and supporting materials such as a staff recommendation letter. The candidates also had the options to submit artwork, school projects, or even creative writing pieces.

The Teen Center had a special visitor this week! Mike Splitt visited the Teen Center today to talk about technology to our kids. It was a really great opportunity for the kids to learn a little bit about how to get into this competitive field! Mike is the owner of In-Sync Systems; a telecommunication company in the Crystal Lake area. A few of the things he discussed were telephone systems, cabling, installing security cameras for places like hotels, access control and commercial sound.
A very special thank you to Mark and Ernie for coming out and speaking to our members at the Teen Center! This was an excellent opportunity for our members to hear from two of our esteemed board members on ways to become successful in their future. Both men had touched on how they started out and the steps they took to get to where they are today.
Meet Adrian Magana! He is an enthusiastic 10 year old and has been a club member since he was in 1st grade. He decided to attend club after many of his friends told him how fun it was. Adrian's favorite staff his Ms. Marissa, because she always smiles and makes sure that all the 5th graders have a lot of fun with whatever she has planned.
On Thursday April 5th Cheryl Wendell came and spoke to our Teen Center Club members. She is part of the BGCDT program committee and works for Arbonne Company. She spoke to the Teens about then finding passion in their ideas and goals even if friends and others don't think its a good idea. Cheryl continued with topics such as empowerment and becoming leaders. Opting out of reading books, she instead will show videos of encouragement.
Crochet has become more popular over the past few years and the BGCDT members are jumping on this creative bandwagon! Parkview has started a Crochet Club and it is becoming a hit with our members. Not only is crochet creative and fun, but it is known to have calming benefits by reducing anxiety, increasing focus and assessing patterns. We are looking forward to see this program continue to blossom and what great things these members create!
